Rubber tires get new life in this unique design by Dutch designer AnneMarie van Splunter. The playground is designed for refugee children in Thailand - I'm sure those kids would love climbing all over it! Such a wonderful use of discarded rubber tires that would have otherwise gone to a landfill. The structure would also use bamboo to lace it together, eliminating the need for metal hardware. I really like van Splunter's artist statement: “Tires are made from the latex of the rubber tree and now they have served their duty, becoming the sculpture of a rubber tree.” If only more playgrounds could incorporate re-purposed materials like this...
