DISCOVER: Christmas at ABC Home

I love visiting ABC Home at any time of the year for their amazing selection of home décor to fit any taste (each floor caters to a different style), but the best time to go is during the holidays. The ground floor is turned into a winter wonderland and it's just beautiful. It usually takes me a good hour of browsing just to feel like I can actually leave visually satisfied. There are breakable things everywhere you turn, so I played it safe and left London at home with Daddy. It was pure bliss for me and my sister as we lazily took it all in and enjoyed the gorgeous displays this year. Be sure to stay tuned for Monday's post when I'll share ABC Home's "Little Ones" collection that will blow your baby's booties off.

CREATE: Stamped Air Vases

This workshop at Tokyo's Shibaura House looks like it would have been a blast for any of the children in attendance. Special paper "air vases" designed by Torafu Architects were paired with a paper stamp kit and some lovely and colorful projects came as a result. What a fun art project in an amazing creative space.

This styled room by Les Enfants du Design is just so cute – if only every child could have a Christmas room like this! Find all of the products shown right here on their site. I think I would die of happiness if I woke up to that giant sheepskin rug under the tree on December 25th. Heavenly!

ENJOY: 1970s Mushroom Stool

I am a little sad that this mushroom stool has sold already over at Wary Meyers, but I wonder if I could make something like this? Am I crazy? Not sure where I would find a tree stump sitting around in Manhattan, but the velvet...maybe...wow. What a mixed up city I live in - where the possibilities of finding velvet on the curb outweigh the possibilities of finding a piece of nature. Hmmm. Something is truly off here.

ENJOY: Rifle Paper Co.

I've been really impressed with the lovely stationery introduced by the Rifle Paper Co., and when I saw these prints in the Pink Olive shop in Brooklyn yesterday I was equally charmed. What sweet art pieces for a nursery, don't you think? A good reminder for parents also on those late sleepless nights while trying to put a fussy baby to sleep. :) I also came across some beautiful new botanical and canine coasters they just released in their online shop and thought they would be so cute hung in a line or grouped together above a crib or toddler bed. Art just doesn't get any more affordable than that!

CREATE: IKEA dresser with black vinyl film

You may have already guessed that I have a love affair with triangles, so of course this dresser popped out to me. :) A really simple concept, using a MALM dresser from IKEA, and cutting out shapes from black adhesive vinyl film to decorate it with. Does anyone know where to find such a thing? Art stores? Home Depot?

REST: Children's Chairs from Fork + Pencil

One of my new favorite vintage furniture shops is Fork + Pencil, located in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. They have two locations, one smaller shop at 221 Court St. and a larger two-story warehouse at 18 Bergen St. Here you will find an enormous collection of treasures on consignment that will have you practically wringing your hands with confusion as to what to study first. It's pretty exciting. They also have quite a few vintage children's furniture pieces, which go quickly. After all, it's located in a kiddy hot spot where design savvy parents are constantly on the prowl for unique finds. I convinced one of the sweet workers there, Damien, to haul these cute chairs out for me so I could get pictures - bless him!

PLAY: Sleds by RESS

It has yet to snow in NYC this winter (despite a freak snowstorm right before Halloween), but if it does again, I am going to be wishing I had one of these crazy cool sleds. German brand RESS has a really beautiful selection of wooden ones that are just begging for a ride. If you are in the U.S., visit here to find out more information about North American retailers.

DISCOVER: Origami Christmas Tree

This past Thursday London and I headed up to the Natural History Museum with some friends to check out the Origami Christmas Tree on display. I was really unprepared for how amazing it turned out to be and have since vowed to make origami ornaments for our tree next year. (How's that for ambitious??) There were just about every animal you can think of, made out of a variety of papers and sizes and it was just fantastic. Definitely one of those things I want to revisit next year.

Paris-based Melanie Rodriguez is becoming quite an accomplished photographer in the world of kids design mags - her work has appeared in Papier Mache and Doolittle and I'm sure the list will only continue to grow. Her dreamy photos are so genuine and I'm especially loving her polaroids. I hope the first one inspires you to be a little silly this weekend.
