ENJOY: Art from Nathalie Lete

For the life of me, I cannot decide which of Nathalie Lete's works I want to bring into our decor. The wallstickers? The wallpaper? The silkscreen prints? Maybe all three? I so enjoy her style and I'm a big sucker for forest animals... Nathalie has a huge portfolio including children’s and graphic’s books, knitted and stuffed toys, glass pictures, patterned dishes, postcards,ceramic sculptures, silkscreen printed t-shirts, rugs and limited edition jewels both for herself and for commissions. A very talented artist for sure, and one that I will definitely keep an eye on. (Wallstickers available here, wallpaper available here, and prints available here).

IMAGINE: A Pirate's Life

I can't tell exactly what these photos were taken for (probably a children's clothing line - if you know, tell us!) but I love the moodiness in juxtaposition with the happy kids who look like they are thoroughly enjoying being pirates for a day. I hope they inspire you to run amuck this weekend!

OBSERVE: Yellow Room

Well, my Happy Hour roundup from last week has sent me into a yellow-loving frenzy. I was immediately charmed by this room with fun yellow features, recently published in a new-to-me Dutch magazine, Adriane at Home. They have a separate magazine published twice a year that features children's interiors called Kinderen, where these photos came from. I am loving the yellow floors - we see lots of painted white floors, but yellow! A whole new feeling. Also notice the polka dot paper lanterns. They look hand painted, which would be so easy to do. It looks like a similar hand painted effect was applied to the walls and almost looks like wallpaper. No need to be precise with the dot placement, the freehand look is much more interesting.

PLAY: Rocky the Rocking Horse

I love finding modern rocking horses/animals and this one would look so great in a minimalist home or kid room. Designed by Australian-born Marc Newson for Magis, "Rocky" is a brand spanking new pop version of the rocking horse, taking its character loosely from medieval jousting horses. Never mind the boring name – he's great, isn't he? Details on pricing and availability yet to come...oh, the suspense!

ENJOY: Origami Wallpaper from Dottir & Sonur

No doubt about it, origami is just plain hot. Remember that origami Christmas tree I went to back in December at the Natural History Museum? Smokin' hot. Which probably explains why I'm getting a little flustered over here oogling over this origami wallpaper from Dottir & Sonur. Multi-disciplinary couple Ingvi and Tinna are the masterminds behind Dottir & Sonur and are also the parents of two young children. Their products possess a playful nature and are well suited for children's spaces. (p.s. Also check out their origami pillow and poster! Is it hot in here, or is it just me?)

PLAY: Cave for Children

About a year ago, our family went inside the Meramec Caverns in Missouri which was a little frightening but very fascinating! Being in a cave is practically like being on another planet and it is so interesting to see what is underground. It was the idea of the cave that sparked this design for a children's kindergarten yard, created by German architects Haugen/Zohar. The cave was built on a limited budget, using 1.5 tons of clean pre-industrial waste that was then thermal bonded together to create the building material. The structure has features found in natural caves, such as places for sun rays to poke through, rain to collect, and lots of nooks and crannies for hiding.  Haugen/Zohar see children as the ultimate clients "being unexpectedly innovative and open minded."

Not the sort of door you would want to put in the master bedroom, but perhaps a playroom? minjjo is a fun element that will make your small peeps feel like big peeps!

REST: Kid's Cherner Table + Chairs

Will somebody please rip this credit card from my fingers before I send my husband into a financial frenzy by purchasing this Cherner table and chairs? I was dying to get the adult size bar stools for our apartment, before we decided there just wasn't room for them...sigh. I've never wanted a designer chair so much. I nearly fell out of my (crappy IKEA) chair when I saw the kid-size version. Oh wow. Someone help. Please.

LIVE: Happy Hour

All of this springy sunshine has really given me an emotional boost and made me think that maybe winter is gone for good... Yellow is such an interesting color – not only does it stimulate mental processes and the nervous system, it also activates memory and encourages communication. Basically all of the things you want to help develop in your growing child, right?
