More than once since moving from NYC, I've become a little homesick for the city but especially when I read a blog post about the new Century of the Child exhibition going on at the MoMA right now. We left right before it started and I was sad about missing it even before it began. Fortunately, the museum has created a fabulous website where you can see much of the items on display. With timelines for each generation, it shows popular designs from the era and what was going on in designer's minds as they tried to create products, schools, playgrounds, etc. for children of their day. It really is fascinating to see what has been created and how even though our society has changed so much over the past century, children's number one priority will always be to play. (Also be sure to check out the MoMA Store where you can purchase some awesome modern toys and the Century of the Child book).
