The area of Brooklyn known as Dumbo is one of New York City's greatest kept secrets. It's so good that now the secret has spread and well, it's not so secret anymore. Years ago, I worked in the neighborhood and really came to love it. This was before I even became pregnant with London, but I found myself often wandering into one particular children's store called Pomme on many a lunch break. I obsessed over everything about it - the open airy feel, the brick walls, the sunlight pouring through it's many windows, and especially the inventory. Oh the beautiful toys, clothing and room decor! It was enough to make me want a baby right then and there. Years later, after London was born, I would take her to Dumbo often, mostly for a ride on Jane's Carousel and a pizza from Grimaldi's, but always with a visit to Pomme at the end. It was then that I became very grateful for another feature of the store - a small kids' play area. Now I could shop to my heart's content and relax knowing that my child was having fun and not interferring with all of the displays. So when I saw that Pomme recently made Vogue.com's "Best of Brooklyn" list as the Best Kid's Outpost, I really wasn't surprised. Not only do they have a beautiful store, they also offer a space for children's parties, workshops, and even haircuts! Needless to say, I miss it and you can bet that my first visit back to the city will definitely include a trip to Pomme. (Shop online here).
